On top of the trails, a thousand feet above the Tweed River sits an iconic stone hut deemed Shrek's with a hundred mile panoramic sylvan and pastoral view ranging from Pico Peak in Killington to Camel's Hump near Stowe. Do you want to wake up to this view?
We can arrange it. The hut is now supplied with a jug of water, wood, flatware, plates and bowls, cookware, cutting board, candles, a few jarred staples, a rocking chair, some folding chairs, books, several games and solar string lights. There is a fire ring on the edge of the panorama, and a simple pit toilet a short walk away, No shower facilities are available, but we can provide and prepare solar shower bags at your request. If you are bikepacking through and the hut is not otherwise occupied, you're welcome to stay, but out of fairness to other users, please donate the appropriate fee during or after your stay.

Several switchbacks up Noodles Revenge Trail, or a few flights of Stone Stairs above Riverside Farm, is a unique trailside oasis, Muddy's Hut. Not merely along the trail, the hut is an integral part of it. You'll first encounter a "spokeasy" bar, trail kiosk and pizzeria upcycled from the artifacts of a past era on Amee Farm. On one level it is pieced together from found materials of bike parts, clay, rock, sand, wood, faux buckskin, glass, metal, and at a different level it manifested out of story and legends. A stone path leads to a fire ring.
Around town primitive campsites are available free of charge on a first come first served basis in the Green Mountain Forest located at the end of Upper Michigan Road. The closest developed campground is across route 100 from Kent Pond and the Sherburne Trails in the town of Killington at Gifford Woods State Park.
In Pittsfield, Swiss Farm Inn, Amee Lodge and Clear River Inn, as well as Trailside Inn and Greenbrier Inn in Killington, are slightly less oriented towards the knobby tired crowd but all very accommodating nevertheless. For great atmosphere and sandwiches, Pittsfield Original General Store is a solid choice; for finding grocery items, the neighborly Swiss Farm Market has a selection that is much better than a typical convenience store. They also have a small deli. The closest spot for an apres beer on tap is Clear River Tavern, a classic local watering hole with pool tables and live bands, on the southern edge of town.
Just north of Pittsfield in Stockbridge is the Wild Fern, a quirky, folk music filled cafe, with an artisan bakery, delicious pizza and a very attentive and friendly proprietess. It's not always open, but when it is, it's our choice for apres riding enjoyment. Just byob and soak in the vibes.
